Oxy Library uses the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) for books as do most academic libraries. The LCC is a classification system that was first developed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to organize and arrange the book collections of the Library of Congress so keep this in mind as you view some of the subject headings assigned to a book. The terms may be outdated or offensive. The Library of Congress does accept proposals for changes and additions to these headings but it is a slow process so will likely lag behind current thinking and terminologies.
