Finding Scores and Recording in the Library Catalog

Music materials circulate the same as other resources in Oxy's collection, and can be checked out at the circulation desk.

When searching for music in OneSearch:

  • To limit your search to sound recordings, under 'Material Type,' select Sound Recording.
  • To limit your search to scores, enter Scores under 'Any field,' then 'Subject.'

Scores on Shelves

 The Occidental College Library uses the Library of Congress (LC) classification system to organize physical books by call numbers in the library book tiers. The tiers are found by turning left when you enter the main floor of the library or ask the information desk for help!

Call numbers that include materials relevant to sheet music include the following:

M 3-3.3 Collected works of individual composers  Tier 2
M 5-1480 Instrumental music Tier 2
M 2147-2188 Liturgy and ritual Tier 2

Use these sites as indexes to track down song titles and anthologies, then use that information to search in Oxy's collection or request via ILL.
