OneSearch: Step One For Library Research

How to effectively use the library's search tool, which covers many of our resources in a single search.

Performing an Advanced Search

Advanced Search allows you more opportunities to specify your search results.

Advanced search box

  • You can add additional search lines for additional keywords
  • You can specify material type (journals, books, articles, etc)
  • You can specify the language of the search results
  • You can specify a date range in order to yield current or historical items

Additional Searching Tips

  • You can add quotation marks around search terms to specify that you are searching a specific group of words together. "Georgia O'Keefe" would tell the search, "I want the search results to include first and last name together as one phrase")
  • You can use the word "AND" between two search terms in order to include both words. Sample search string: "Georgia O'Keefe" AND painting would make sure each search result would include both terms: "Georgia O'Keefe" AND the word painting.
  • You can use the word "OR" between two search terms to specify that either term would be acceptable. Sample search string: painting OR drawing would mean results would include either (or both) terms.
  • You can use the word "NOT" between two search terms to specify that you do not want a word to appear anywhere in your search. Sample search string: painting NOT drawing would mean your search results will not mention the word "drawing".
